Overview:
Medron Pryde was intrigued by the Kanga Hover/Jump tank, especially after seeing a lance of well-maintained Comstar Kanga's handily outflank one of his vehicle lances in a mock-combat on the Pryde Rock proving grounds. He researched the Kangas, finding their weaknesses, and developed several ideas to reduce them. He then sent his ideas to the PRI engineers who made his vision a reality.

The first PRI Kanga performed its field testing in August, 3062, where it handily outmaneuvered and out-powered another Kanga. Other field tests in December showcased a full lance of Kangas totally destroying a lance of vintage Kangas, and fighting a full company of standard vehicles into the ground through nasty hit-and-run tactics.

Capabilities:
The old Janzen ICE engine was replaced with a VOX 165 fusion engine, giving the tank enough room to add an extra set of jump engines. PRI engineers used the new system to good effect, re-working it into a series of smaller, focused jump jets, similar to those on the Guardian or the ancient Harrier fighters. It looks nothing like the original because of this, but PRI engineers, and Medron himself, decided it was acceptable because the new systems didn't have the major explosive hazards of the older thrust bottles.

The engineers left the Lonworth Autocannon alone, but replaced the General Datatech LRM/SRM system with their own Fireswarm-C and Cruncher-C missile systems. With double the average firepower in both systems, and extra ammunition for the LRM system, they can fire on average as long as the vintage Kanga's. They did, however, remove the Machine Gun, significantly lowering the vehicle's anti-infantry role.

They also replaced the Durolex armor with Rock Hard 2 Ferro-Fibrous armor, increasing protection slightly, but still leaving it skimpy at best.

PRI engineers also had to ship in Comstar experts to help them understand the AL2200 Computer, one of the so-called Artificial Intelligence series developed by the Nirasaki Computers Collective on Caph during the Star League era. They redesigned it into what is now called the PR1000. It automatically handles all routine functions, including gyro-stability during jumps and hover-maneuvers. The PR1000 can also operate the vehicle independently on a preprogrammed mission like the original system.

Designed to work with Talk & Trac 10 comm. and targeting systems, the new Kanga is highly accurate. Able to simultaneously target and track more targets then most 'Mechs, even during jump-manuevers or evasive actions, the system is a hit with the crews. [+1 bonus to gunnery at all times and +1 bonus to initiative when leading a unit.]

Deployment
Still new, very few of these expensive vehicles have been seen in active deployment. We do predict though, they will be used fairly often in scout and skirmisher units. Fast enough to run from just about anything, and powerful enough to destroy anything they can't run from, they would be very good in either situation.
