Overview:
Introduced in 2602, the old Champions were much faster then the Guillotine, but lacked her nimble-quick manuevers made possible partly because of her jump jets. Despite being called over-engined, oversized, under-gunned and too costly, it quickly became a favorite of pilots and MechWarriors who fought beside it. Therefore, it was no surprise to see a quickly refitted Champion shown in late January of 3061 to Comstar observers. The upgraded Champion has seen only minimal upgrades compared to some of the other PRI upgrades.

Capabilites:
The Harpoon-6 missile system was replaced with the Cruncher-C Streak system and the old Magna MKII lasers bit the dust in favor of the newer Farstar-C laser arrays, giving the new Champion extra firepower in the medium combat ranges along with shoring up damage profiles at the short and point blank ranges. Despite some disagreements within the design team, the Lubalin LBX cannon was not replaced by the Nutcruncher-C heavy Ultra cannon though as designers did not want to lose the range of the cluster firing cannon, and the Martell Small Lasers were left alone as well to minimize design differences for previous Champion pilots.

A single heat sink was added to help make up the increased heat of the medium laser arrays and to replace the no longer needed Artemis fire controls. Unfortunately this extra dissipation only partially offsets the new heat rate, so pilots accustomed to the old Champion's heat curve should excercise caution when piloting this 'Mech in battle. The Talk & Trac 10 is used as well, leaving this Champion a superior command 'Mech.

Variants:
The CHP PR1-W replaces the extra heatsink and the Lubalin LBX with the Nutcruncher-C ultra heavy autocannon. Designed to look exactly like the Lubalin, this version of the Nutcruncher is harder to make then that found on the King Crab and so this variant is rare.

When encountered though, it can be a very rough surprise for its foes.

Deployment
As with most present Comstar construction, half of the Champions produced go to the Com Guards, with the other half going to the Rasalhague Kungsarme, but some are rumured to be with Terra's Pryde as well.
