Overview:
The Beowulf came about as a result of the loss of all the Mongoose scouts 'Mechs on Terra against the Word of Blake in 3058. Rather then order new ones, Precenter Martial decided to build an improved scout 'Mech and the Beowulf was the completion of that vision. The designs were sent to Pryde Rock as well and as this 'Mech was presently a part of new construction for Comstar, it was deemed that no unnecessary upgrades be done to it. Within a few weeks of arrival, the first BEO PR1 stood revealed to Comstar observers in January 3061. It would later begin full construction in May of 3061.

The only difference between her and the normal Beowulfs was the Farstar-C lasers replacing the Diverse Optics lasers received from the Free World's League. Unlike the prototype Beowulf shown in January, the Farstars used for this process were specially built to fit into the spots usually taken by the Diverse Optics so that different Beowulfs could swap lasers back and forth for easy maintainance.

It is a little known fact that most Beowulfs made by PRI are actually made by Odin Manufacturing and the new lasers are simply slipped in place after being shipped to the Republic, meaning that most Beowulfs upgraded to this design are not built on Pryde Rock. Pryde Rock does however build approximately one of these a month from scratch, taking special care to make sure they are identical to the original.

Deployment
Despite the ease of making new Beowulfs or upgrading existing ones, the Beowulf PR1 is rather rare because of the expense of making the custom Farstar-C lasers. But even through this, the Beowulf PR1 is the most common of the PRI refits.

As with most present Comstar construction, half of the Beowulfs produced or refitted go to the Com Guards, with the other half going to the Rasalhague Kungsarme. We are positive that it was the prototype an observer saw spotting for a Pryde Rock artillery bombardment of a Marian command post during the Second Battle of Pryde Rock, and rumors suggest that they may have more of these 'Mechs.
