Overview:

         Predecessors of the Prowler multi-terrain vehicle first saw action in the mid-twenty-fourth century. The Prowler itself was unveiled in 2611 by Vitesse Vehicles. The popularity of the design led Vitesse to license the Prowler to other manufactures, but today Vitesse itself no longer produces the Prowler, preferring to concentrate on more conventional saloon cars. After the Jihad, Mitchell Vehicles upgraded the Prowler to more modern capabilities.

Capabilities:

         The Prowler 2 is as sturdy and dependable as the older versions. The same Nissan fusion plant provides the Prowler power to traverse rugged trrain and gives the vehicle an impressive top combat speed of 65 kph, though they avoid combat when possible. A duplex drive system and hermetically sealed hull enable the Prowler to cross rivers and swamps that would stop most conventional vehicles, but Mitchell Vehicles advises against using the Prowler to cross larger expanses of open water.
         Not designed as a combat vehicle, the Prowler does have weapons which were originally designed for anti-creature defense. Of course since some creatures are as dangerous as BattleMechs, the weapons have been shown to be effective against any "big game". A Snorri missile launcher and a pair of Blankenburg pulse lasers in the turret give it a wide field of fire. A Zone-Tone short range launcher completes the main armament though can only fire forward due to its location. Six tons of J-Seal armor plating virtually ensures that weapons fire, natural obstacles, or even the assault of sea water will do little damage to the Prowler.
         The original Prowler only had the provision for a single driver, and no other crew members, in the main cab, but many owners that used their Prowlers as explorers complained that they had to be alone unless they performed heavy modifications. The Prowler 2 took that fact to heart and has a large crew cab with three seats and control panels. It can be run from a single panel, but often Prowler crews choose to split up their tasks so they can can each concentrate on their job.
         Interestingly, a large cargo bay gives direct access to the weapons turret and the ammunition bays in case of a jam. That cargo bay also can carry enough food and other consumables to keep a Prowler in the field for months. It can also carry a full level 1 of BattleArmor, or an infantry unit, in style.

Deployment

         Most Prowlers are used by ComStar's Explorer Corps, though some are run by the Com Guard as infantry transports and amphibious landing craft.
