Overview:

         The Terra-class frigate is the most numerous WarShip in the Human Sphere, sent everywhere to show ComStar's presence. They escort their larger cousins, protect recharge stations, and can also be seen just sailing anywhere that ComStar has an interest. Every ComStar fleet is surrounded by these small ships, screening them from enemies.
         Their primary weapon is a single Kinslaughter naval-class particle cannon that can punch holes in the armor of almost any frigate linked to a C3 system used to share data with other ships. It is backed up by two Blankenburg light naval lasers, two Piranha missile launchers, and several arrays of smaller anti-fighter weaponary that do a good job of keeping it safe from those smaller enemies. They carry a level II of Huscarl OmniFighters most often tasked with keeping an overwatch against other fighters. The crew and fighters are supplied from two cargo bays with large easy-access doors that can hold more than a thousand tons of cargo. This allows the Terra to remain on station for months without resupply, making them an excellent patrol craft. It is also common to see them transporting a level II of BattleMechs or vehicles, making them a capable small transport. If there is any weakness to the craft it is that it can not carry DropShips through a jump, keeping it from transporting larger numbers of troops.
         ComStar is not the only nation that uses the Terra. They can also be seen flown by some other nations, sold or leased by ComStar to fund its rebuilding efforts in the 3080s and early 3090s. They ended the practice in 3095, but large numbers of Terra's continue to be flown by other powers, especially the Tikonov Free Republic and New Star League which purchased the lion's share of them. The advanced materials and systems used in their construction though require most owners to contract with ComStar to maintain them, and ComStar has arranged for more than one Terra to "disappear" after getting into the hands of people they really didn't like, such as pirates. In the last few years, they have also been attempting to buy back Terras, or have been cancelling leases to get them back into their hands. The Tikonov Free Republic and the New Star League have not been impacted by this change in policy.
         Terra's have seen action in every major war, and many minor ones, since the Jihad, and opponents know to look out for them as they can be extremely deadly in the hands of a competent commander. Like other WarShips of their size, they can land at DropPorts throughout the Human Sphere, making them a common sight for the ordinary people of known space.
