Overview:

         The Jihad and the renewed Invasion of the Hells Horses and their allies badly damaged Clan Wolf. They nearly destroyed it in fact, but after the war ended Khan Phelan Kell ordered that new WarShips be built to regain Clan Wolf's naval power. At first they built Fredasas, knowing they were a good and small ship that could be built relatively quickly. Then they acquired the Raven Alliance specs for their new Fredasas and upgraded the Wolf facilities to build them as well, calling them the new Dire Wolf.
         These ships could not be mass produced compared to other newer classes though, and Khan Kell made the decision that a less resource-intensive ship was needed. He ordered his scientists to take the Dire Wolf and do exactly that. The prototype came out of the yards one year later and surprised him. It looked like exactly like the DIre Wolf to the naked eye.
         Built using lighter composites, it actually can take far less punishment and carries fewer weapons, but it can carry three fighter stars into battle like the Dire Wolf, and can even bring a DropShip with it. They even modified the KF drive to generate a larger jump signature than a ship of its mass normally would, keeping it in line with a Fredasa or Dire Wolf's signature. Few can tell the difference between a Great Wolf and a Dire Wolf until they enter combat, and even then a cagey captain can often keep the secret for a few minutes, causing many enemies to flee from battle against a "superior enemy."
