Overview:
After the Jihad ended, Solaris found itself in possession of a handful of Assault Triumphs "liberated" from the Word of Blake. For the first few years those ships were used as is, but they were ill-equipped to support the Solaris army. In 3080, Doctor R. Raisley began working on an effort to redesign the ships. He finished upgrades on the first one in 3082 and it became the template for all of the others. In 3087, full production began and new ships have been coming off the lines ever since.
The first Hirsch as it became known, can carry 18 AeroSpace Fighters, Land-AirMechs, or BattleMechs, and 48 BattleArmor units. This version is the most common one in use by Solaris, and takes Solarian warriors to competitions on other planets. Large single-occupancy rooms for every person on board makes them comfortable for long trips, or for deployments away from home. A large cargo bay also means that they can stay away without refueling or restocking for months at a time.
The assault version, first seen in 3092, of the Hirsch only carries 6 fighters and the BattleArmor. The cargo bay is reduced, and the passenger's quarters are removed to facilitate a capital-class weapons grid. The civilian version, on the market since 3095, is based off the original Hirsch, though all of the ammunition-dependent weapons are removed. The passenger quarters and vehicle bays are also removed, maximizing cargo carrying potential.
The Hirsch is the primary DropShip of the Solaris Cooperative, quickly replacing older DropShips as each one comes off the lines. Solaris also sells them to members of the Allied Mercenary Command, and they have become a common sight at Outreach and the other AMC hiring halls.
