Overview:
The first basic hover scouts found use during the Second Soviet Civil War when American troops required a rapid recon vehicle to keep track of hostile Soviet forces. The basic hover scout of today is nearly identical to that long ago design, though technological upgrades have made its systems far more capable.
Hover scouts are long and thin, streamlined to improve their speed as much as possible. Their pilots sit near the needle-like nose, in a cockpit more akin to that used by air or space fighters than that used in most ground-based vehicles. Behind them, most scouts have a cramped place for the electronics specialist to monitor the feeds coming from the recon gear, though some dispense with this compartment for more automated systems. Above and behind those two stations, usually above the main engines, a gunner's station in a powered and armored turret allows easy access to the main gun, keeping the scout safe from most threats. Scouts are known to go out without their full crew, and pilot-only scouts are actually very common, though without the standard crew they often do not do their job as well.
Most hover scouts seen today use the same basic combustion engine and main machine gun as the old scouts the Americans used in the Soviet Union, though units with more funds often have access to fusion powered scouts with an anti-'Mech laser.
