Overview:
OmniTech's original Tsunami medium ’Mech was the company’s flagship design in the early 3050s, spurred on by the photogenic "OmniTwins" Celes Highren and Selphi Valentine. Well designed but lacking any large weapons to get cheers from the crowds, many critics claimed it belonged more to the battlefield than the Solaris arenas. The fans did not agree with them, though most critics of the design say it was because of the flagship pilots, not the design itself. Either way, sales for the machines began to take off with purchases by minor mercenary commands and Solaris stables alike. The inexpensive Tsunami was soon seen throughout the Human Sphere, both on the holovids and in real life. The advent of newer technologies allowed OmniTech to expand on the versatility of the design, with some increase in cost, just in time for the Word of the Blake Jihad to smash into Solaris.
During the Jihad, most of these more advanced Tsunamis died, cut off from the supply lines that kept their expensive weapons and myomers operational. The older Tsunamis survived though, even in the chaos of that war, and when it ended gave OmniTech a platform to rebuild on. In 3080, they once again began producing the Tsunami, this time using the newest technologies they had access to in order to make it even more effective. Interestingly, they kept the chassis the same as before, allowing individuals to easily downgrade the design if they don't have access to the standard modern technologies.
Capabilities:
Fast on its feet, the Tsunami can approach 100 kilometers per hour, powered by the extra light Shipil AeroSpace engine. Lexington Lifters make it jump up to 180 meters at a time, giving it impressive mobility both for duels and on the larger battlefield. It sports a quartet of Pinpricker pulse lasers that can quickly shred enemy armor, a Cruncher missile system with two tubes, and a trio of Chatterbox machine guns on each side. Many MechWarriors use the lasers to open up holes in the armor and then the smaller weapons to splash around inside their target's structure looking for systems to break. Rock Hard armor tries to protect it against the same tactic and is easy to repair when the BattleMech does take damage.
Deployment
The Solaris Irregulars use this as their standard medium BattleMech, harassing heavier formations with their high mobility and pulse lasers. They have also been used as anti-infantry 'Mechs, a task their six machine guns make them deadly at. Units in the Allied Mercenary Command also make heavy use of the design, approving of the limited ammunition it carries and the ease of "acquiring" reloads of what it does use in the rare instance of the 'Mech actually running out.
