Overview:
After Katherine Steiner-Davion pulled the Lyran state from the Federated Commonwealth, Archon Prince Victor Steiner-Davion ordered a number of upgrades to long-existing Federation designs. Long a favorite 'Mech of the Prince's father, the formidable Hanse Davion, the JagerMech was Prince Victor's first choice for a refit. He shared the design with the Draconis Combine, and for a time that nation produced the same design on Quentin. When the Jihad began and the Word of Blake's space-based superiority became obvious, Coordinator Kurita ordered a refit of the design to make it a better anti-air unit.
It fought well, shooting down many Word nukes before they arrived at their targets, and was one of the weapons that allowed the Draconis Combine to survive the Jihad as a single entity. After Quentin fell though, the design began to fade away as one after another were destroyed before the Word was finally driven from Combine space. Many thought the design would disappear from use, but the Tikonov Free Republic changed that. After they captured Quentin, the Ridzik brothers ordered the rebuilding of its factories, and they started production of the JagerMech III K in order to sell it to other interested parties.
Capabilities:
The JagerMech III K is far more robust than its predecessors. It sports Tiegart particle projector cannons and enough heat sinks to dissipate the heat they generate. A pair of Imperator light autocannons supports the energy armament, generating very little heat. A large fusion reactor gives the 'Mech enough speed to keep up with nearly all 'Mechs of its weight class. The design also sports improved armor protection over any previous model. The JagerMech III can do immense damage at long ranges; its only major drawback is a lack of significant close-range firepower, though two Intek medium lasers do keep it at least viable in that environment.
Finally, a Matabushi Citizen C3 Slave Unit allows the 'Mech to exchange targeting data with other units. Capable of linking up with capable anti-air units such as the Partisan tank, the JagerMech can very easily support most anti-air emplacements. For those nations that have no use for the C3 system, Independence Weaponry does offer a slight modification that places a third medium laser in its place.
Deployment
The JagerMech III K can be seen throughout the Human Sphere and is used by most nations in at least small numbers. Interestingly, the Federated Suns is one of the largest buyers of this design, an irony when it was they who created it. While a very capable anti-air machine, it is also used as a cavalry 'Mech by many nations. Its speed and firepower makes it adequate for such roles, and the ammunition for its main cannons is easy to find, making it a favorite of many mercenary units that prize its versatility.
